10 ways to keep body healthy

Keeping your body health doesn’t have to be complicated. From drinking water, to exercise there are a number of ways you can stay healthy in this day and age. Most of the strategies are free or low cost and do not require any money. It is really simple, just add a couple of strategies in your daily routine and away you go! Follow these simple steps if you want to improve your health for the long run.

1. Drink water

Drinking water is one the easiest things you can do to improve your health. Severe dehydration can be life threatening so it is important to stay hydrated at all times. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day is enough to keep you hydrated. It is especially important to keep hydrated after vigorous exercise (Fourwellness.co, 2021).

1. Eat fruit and veggies

Not eating enough fruit and vegetables can result in reduced fibre in the diet. Without fibre it is impossible to digest properly, slowing down your body at some times causing constipation. You should be eating at least 2 pieces of fruit a day to stay healthy. For vege you should be eating 2/3rds vege and 1/3 protein on your plate.

1. Cut carbs

Cutting carbs is one way you can help to reduce your weight if you are overweight. Reducing carbs by not eating bread, pasta and eating more low carb veggies like broccoli, mushroom and asparagus, is a great way to stay healthy by reducing your waist line.

1. Exercise

Exercising is one of the best things you can do when it comes to staying healthy. You can do light exercise like going for a walk or more heavy like running or doing weights depending on your fitness level. I would suggest you start off with the basics first and work up to something more strenuous. A light 30-40 minute walk daily is enough to keep the average person healthy (ucsfhealth.org, 2021).

1. Take supplements

Taking supplements is one way you can stay healthy. Taking vitamins like like vitamin c for immunity and vitamin d is good. Due to co-vid 19 people are getting less and less vitamin c and because they are inside they are not getting enough vitamin d. Supplement with these two vitamins to prevent any cold or flu. Also you can take magnesium for stress. It is an easy way to get your vitamin and mineral intake without having to eat lots of fruit and vegetables.

1. Brain exercises

Staying healthy is not all about the body but also about the brain. Doing brain exercises is a great way to keep the brain healthy. Things like puzzles and crosswords and playing online games is what you should do to stay healthy. Engage in brain exercises every day to keep your mind busy and active and to reduce brain aging. In some cases brain exercises are good for people who have things like dementia causing new brain neurons to grow.

1. Meditation and Yoga

Meditation and Yoga are two strategies I use to keep myself healthy. You can meditate by listening to a track on YouTube and listening to the music, relaxing and breathing. You can also break it up by doing yoga at the park or outside. If you don’t know how to do yoga, there are also tracks on YouTube that you can follow. Buy yourself a yoga mat, and purchase some tights or some lose fitting clothing so you be comfortable when you exercise.

1. Massage

Massage is one way to stay healthy. The body can hold all sorts of tension and pain. Every now and then it is important to relieve the tension through massage. These days you can buy massage guns which massage at a high intensity. If you don’t want to do that then you can pay for a massage from a masseur, which doesn’t cost too much money.

1. Cut sugar

By reducing sugar you will be helping the body. The body is not designed to be consuming lots of sugar. Unfortunately with our modern day diet there is a lot of sugar in our diets. Whether it is takeaway or take out, or it is just packaged foods, there is a lot of extra added sugar added to foods. So it is important to read the labels on all packages before buying (who.intl, 2021).

1. Reduce alcohol

Limiting alcohol is one way to stay healthy. By limiting alcohol you will be reducing the load on your liver and other organs. It takes a lot for the liver to process alcohol, taking many hours. If you reduce your alcohol intake you will reduce the load on your liver and your body won’t need to work so hard. Drinking alcohol regularly will affect your body in a bad way so reduce it as much as you can (ucsfhealth.org, 2021).

Although we have only mentioned a couple of strategies here, if you implement only a few of them you will be well on the way to having a healthy body and mind.
