Britney Spears has confirmed her engagement to Sam Asghari, her long-term lover.
On Instagram, the singer shared a video of the couple showing off the ring.
The 39-year-old is trying to get her 13-year conservatorship, which governs both her personal and financial life, lifted.
Spears has disclosed that the contract prevents her from marrying Mr Asghari, 27, or having additional children.
Concerns about the singer’s mental health led to the conservatorship arrangement being enforced in 2008.
Jamie Spears, Britney Spears’ father, filed papers in a Los Angeles court last week to dissolve the conservatorship. A court date has been set for September 29.
In the previous two years, Spears had attempted to oust him from the post twice.
Mr. Asghari, a fitness trainer and actor, also shared a photo of the ring and the pair kissing.
Brandon Cohen, his manager, confirmed the engagement to People magazine.
“Today, the couple made their long-standing relationship official, and they are extremely moved by the outpouring of support, devotion, and love,” he added.
In 2016, the pair met on the set of a music video.
Mr. Asghari was born in Tehran, Iran, but migrated to Los Angeles with his father, a truck driver, when he was 12 years old.
He described landing in the United States without knowing any English in an interview with Forbes earlier this year: “It was obviously a cultural shock, coming out here with a whole new language to speak.”
Mr. Asghari has three sisters who have also left Iran for the United States.
Spears has already married twice. In 2004, she married Jason Alexander, a childhood acquaintance, in Las Vegas, but the marriage was shortly dissolved.
She married dancer Kevin Federline later that year, with whom she has two children. In 2007, the couple divorced.
Spears has called her father’s treatment of her “cruelty” in the past.
She urged a judge to terminate the “abusive” conservatorship so she could marry and have more children in emotional testimony in June.
She stated she wanted to press charges against her father a month later.
Jamie Spears now has authority over his daughter’s estate and other parts of her life, according to a court-ordered conservatorship.
Due to health concerns, Mr. Spears stepped down as conservator of his daughter’s personal affairs in 2019 and was replaced by Jodi Montgomery, the singer’s long-time care manager.
Mr. Spears, on the other hand, continues to supervise his daughter’s business dealings.
