On Tuesday morning, a body was found in a canal near the Florida Turnpike in Broward County. An investigation has been started to find out what happened.

An employee working on fiber optics on the northbound side of the Turnpike, close to Coconut Creek Parkway, found the corpse at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol have confirmed that the deceased is male and that he has been in the water for at least 48 hours.

A dive team from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office recovered the corpse, and the medical examiner will establish the cause of death.

The circumstances surrounding the occurrence are still being looked into.
