One of the many announcements made at Gamescom Opening Night Live was Microsoft’s Halo-themed Xbox Series X, which will be available on November 15th, over a month before Halo Infinite’s announced release date of December 8th. On Wednesday, preorders for the $549.99 limited-edition package became available at the Microsoft Store and Target, with initial presale stock selling out in minutes. If you missed out on the Infinite-ready console the first time around, Walmart is offering you another shot. According to a Walmart spokeswoman who confirmed the specifics with media sources, the event will take place on Wednesday, August 25th at 8:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT.
We recommend signing in to Walmart and changing your address and payment information before the preorders go live, as we do with all next-gen console restocks. If you’re having trouble finding a console using your browser, you might have better luck using Walmart’s mobile app. Best Buy has a page dedicated to the package as well, but we haven’t heard anything about when preorders will be available.
The limited-edition console, meanwhile, is designed to mark Halo’s 20th anniversary, with gold highlights, metallic plating, and a starry façade inspired by the franchise’s celestial setting. The console also includes a digital copy of Halo Infinite (when it becomes available), a matching controller, and blue accents on the top vent rather than green. It even makes bespoke Halo-themed sounds when it turns on and off.
In addition to the limited-edition bundle, Microsoft also revealed a Halo-themed Xbox Elite 2 controller with a slightly different design from the one included with the combo. The Halo Infinite Limited Edition Elite Series 2 features a green exterior inspired by Master Chief, as well as a special case and a gold D-pad. It will be available for $199.99 on November 15th, though preorders through the Microsoft Store have already sold out.
