The personal account of US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has been permanently disabled by Twitter due to continuous breaches of its rules regarding coronavirus disinformation.
The move against the Republican legislator was taken as part of Twitter’s strike system, which flags potentially harmful tweets regarding the virus.
The Georgia lawmaker had already been suspended four times by the corporation.
The restriction, according to Rep. Greene, proves that the firm is a “enemy of America.”
The 47-year-old stated in a long letter broadcast to Telegram that “social media networks can’t stop the truth from spreading far and wide” and accused Twitter of assisting unnamed adversaries in “a Communist revolution.”
Her official congressional account, which appears to be used occasionally by employees, is still operational.
The congresswoman’s suspension came after she mistakenly tweeted about “very large quantities of Covid vaccination fatalities” in the United States on Saturday.
A Twitter representative told the BBC that Rep Greene had been banned for “multiple” breaches of the platform’s coronavirus misinformation policy, which allows users four “strikes” with various penalties before imposing a permanent ban.
In August, she received her fourth penalty from Facebook after falsely claiming that coronavirus vaccinations were “failed” and urging authorities not to approve fresh injections.
“We’ve been clear that, per our policy’s strike system, we’ll permanently suspend accounts for multiple policy infractions,” the representative added.
Rep. Greene has become one of Washington’s most divisive legislators since her election in 2020.
She has previously been linked to the QAnon conspiracy theory and has been a loud supporter of former President Donald Trump’s baseless assertions that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
Despite the United States’ struggle to contain the coronavirus, which has claimed the lives of over 825,000 people, she has been a staunch opponent of anti-virus efforts.
She has repeatedly questioned vaccination effectiveness and has been punished for refusing to follow Covid requirements in Congress, including those involving wearing a mask on the House floor.
