Miramar police have released a photo of a woman they believe may have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run.
In a hit-and-run that took place on Sunday, which resulted in the death of Silvio Jose Ortega Martinez, police in Miramar, Florida, revealed on Wednesday that they are searching for Janae Shaniece Lewis, 28, of North Augusta, South Carolina.
Lewis, who is allegedly evading capture, was last spotted in the Augusta, Georgia region behind the wheel of a silver Chevy Malibu with the Georgia license plate number XJH246. This wasn’t one of the cars that collided.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 2:15 a.m. on Pembroke Road, close to 65th Avenue.
A white automobile is seen crashing into Martinez and then speeding away from the scene in the surveillance film. People hurried to the site to aid, but the person was confirmed dead upon arrival.
On Tuesday, the driver’s family issued a public appeal for aid in locating him.
Kevin Ravaez, Martinez’s brother-in-law, reported that Martinez had planned to see him that evening but “he never came home.”
A translator spoke on his behalf, saying, “So he continued phoning him and texting him and he never answered, so ultimately it was the following morning when he received the horrible news.”
The Miramar Police Department may be reached at 954-602-4000 if anybody has any information on the location of Lewis.
