Sean Penn, a filmmaker and actor, is in Ukraine working on a documentary on Russia’s escalating attack.

Penn attended news briefings, spoke with Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, and spoke with media and military people on the Russian invasion, according to a Facebook post from the White House on Thursday.

The president’s administration remarked on Facebook, “Sean Penn exhibits the guts that many others, notably western politicians, lack.” “The filmmaker came to Kiev specifically to document all of the current events in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our nation,” says the director.

In late November, he returned to work on the project, which is produced by VICE Studios. He was photographed touring the frontlines of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the Donetsk area at the time.

The Oscar winner has been active in several worldwide humanitarian and anti-war projects over the years, and in reaction to the 2010 Haiti disasters, he formed the non-profit disaster relief group CORE, which was documented in the documentary “Citizen Penn.”

Penn’s spokesperson did not reply to a request for comment right away. VICE Studios did not respond to a request for comment right away.
