Sony is apparently aiming to give a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for Horizon Forbidden West. The U-turn comes after the firm faced significant backlash after announcing that there will be no upgrade route for Horizon Forbidden West PS4 gamers, despite an earlier promise of a free upgrade to the PS5 version.
Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, acknowledges, “It’s plainly obvious that the products we verified in our pre-order start missed the goal.” “While the pandemic’s devastating effects delayed Forbidden West’s release date, we will honor our offer: players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version.”
To obtain access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West, Sony had intended to compel PS4 users to buy the $79.99 Digital Deluxe edition, $199.99 Collector’s edition, or $259.99 Regalla edition.
Sony has also announced a $10 digital upgrade for both digital and physical editions of PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles. That means that the upcoming God of War, Gran Turismo 7, and other Sony first-party cross-gen games will offer a $10 digital upgrade option for PS4 owners who wish to upgrade to the PS5 version.
