Twitter is experimenting with a new shopping function that allows users to preview forthcoming product launches. Product Drops is a tool that allows businesses to tease things before they go on sale, and shoppers may sign up to be informed through in-app alerts before they go on sale.
In a blog post published today, the business explained how reminders would operate. Shoppers may sign up for alerts by clicking a “remind me” button when brands schedule product drops. Product drop tweets may be liked, retweeted, bookmarked, and shared just like any other post on Twitter. Users who have chosen to receive reminders will receive a notification 15 minutes prior to the release and at the scheduled drop time. When it’s time to buy, consumers will be routed to a “shop on website” button that will take them to the brand’s website.
Currently, the test is only available to iOS users in the United States who use Twitter in English. According to Twitter, early brand partners include Dior, The Home Depot, and apparel retailer Union Los Angeles.
Shopping reminders on Twitter are comparable to facilities that exist on other platforms, such as Instagram, where companies may preview new items and users can set up reminders. Despite the fact that e-commerce isn’t as prominent on Twitter as it is on Instagram, where an entire tab is dedicated to buying, customers are already discussing highly anticipated products on the platform. To that end, the new Twitter test includes a clickable hashtag relating to the drop on the product preview page, allowing customers to locate tweets about the launch.
